Before you go
You’ll need a ChargerMate account.
If the charger you’re heading to is paid, add a card to your account before you arrive. Free chargers don’t need a card. See Paying for charging for how payment works.
Find a charger
Search on Find chargers, or scan the QR code on the charger itself. The charger’s page shows:
- The price per kWh, including any different rates for times of day.
- The cable: Tethered cable means the cable is attached to the charger. BYO cable means you need to bring your own.
- The status. You can only start charging when it says Available.
Start charging
- On the charger’s page, press Start charging. This takes you to your session page.
- Plug the cable into your car within 2 minutes. The session page counts down the time you have left.
- Charging begins once the charger detects your car. The session page updates live, showing how long you’ve been charging, the energy delivered so far, and your car’s state of charge if it reports one.
If you don’t plug in within 2 minutes, the session expires. Nothing is charged, and you can start a new one.
You can only have one session going at a time.
Stop automatically
On the session page you can set the charger to stop by itself after a set time, once it’s delivered a set amount of energy (kWh), or, on a paid charger, once the session reaches a set cost. Handy if you only need a top-up, the spot has a time limit, or you want to stick to a budget. The session page shows the running cost as you charge.
Finish up
When you’re done, press Stop session on the session page and confirm. Stop the session before you unplug.
A session also ends on its own when your car is full or stops drawing power, or when it reaches a limit you set.
Once it’s finished, we email you a summary, and the session appears on your Sessions page.
